Neeraj Chopra, a javelin thrower, praises World Athletics for choosing to honor Paris gold winners

Renowned javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra praised World Athletics’ decision today to grant $50,000 to each of its gold medalists from the Olympic Games in Paris and expressed his desire to see similar incentives offered in other international tournaments.

Gold medalists in 48 athletic events at the Paris Games this year will get a substantial payment from the WA, which has pledged to expand the pool to include all three medal winners in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This is a first for an Olympic sport.

During a virtual conversation, Chopra said, “There isn’t the kind of money in athletics that is in tennis or football among other sports.”

“It’s a wonderful start for World Athletics to offer reward money for competitors who win gold at the Olympics in Paris. It’s a useful inclusion. WA is becoming very busy. It’s fantastic that they will eventually provide financial incentives for contests like the Diamond League, he said.

“90m mark could arrive soon.”

Chopra adds that if his training continue as they are, he should be able to break the 90-meter barrier before the Olympics.

In the 2022 Stockholm Diamond League, Chopra threw the spear the farthest in competition, reaching a distance of 89.94 meters. He has exceeded 90 meters in the gym, but he hasn’t been able to carry it over into a competition.

“I will try to breach the 90m mark before that (Paris Olympics),” said the 26-year-old, who will be looking to hold onto his Olympic title. Ideally, it occurs before Paris, and everything proceeds without a hitch. As a result, it may occur before the Olympics, saving people’s patience. It’s well-prepared.

The current world champion’s confidence is a result of his achievement after his gold medal in Tokyo, as well as his successful off-season when he concentrated on strength and conditioning.
