Odisha Police initiates area dominance to prevent Naxals from entering Chhattisgarh

Following the neutralization of 29 Naxals in the Kanker district of the neighboring state the day before, Odisha police initiated an area domination operation in the bordering districts of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday.

According to sources, police have increased security in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, and Bargarh that border Chhattisgarh. According to a senior police official, “Area domination exercises have been launched in the bordering districts to ensure the Naxals are not able to cross over to Odisha from Chhattisgarh.”

According to sources, state police authorities are expecting red ultras who may have been injured during the gunfight with security forces in Chhattisgarh to try to enter Odisha covertly in order to prevent further harm.

The police have turned on their intelligence resources, and everyone in the region that borders Chhattisgarh is on high alert. Days before Chhattisgarh goes to polls in the first phase of the general elections, Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Odisha Police and members of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are conducting area domination exercises, according to sources. The purpose of the exercises is to prevent infiltration.

To successfully combat the Naxal threat during elections, DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi, director of intelligence SK Priyadarsi, ADG Law and Order Sanjay Kumar, and other top officials had a review meeting in Malkangiri district recently.
