Operation Prahar: 17 Naxals are being pursued by security forces

Security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division stated on Wednesday that they have identified 17 dangerous Naxal operators who need to be neutralized, one day after they killed 29 Maoists in the Kanker region. Included on the kill list, which was created as part of Operation Prahar, is the notorious Maoist leader Mandvi Hidma, also referred to as Hidmalu alias Santosh.

Hidma, who was born in South Sukma’s Purvarti village, is regarded as the most dangerous person and has been linked to naxalism since 2001. According to insiders, he is a specialist with the AK-47 and has a robust information network across the region. His hiding place in the Sukma woods of Chhattisgarh has been identified by the military.

In the Kanker area of Chhattisgarh, 29 Maoists were killed in a confrontation with police forces; Amit Shah promises a naxal-free India
Up to 79 Naxalites have reportedly been slain so far this year in separate confrontations in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist heartland of Bastar division, according to officials. Of these, two significant operations over the last 15 days have neutralized 42 Naxal operators.

Targeting senior Naxal leaders, who brainwash young people and encourage them to join their ranks, is the primary goal of Operation Prahar. The operation will be increased in the next days to bring it to a logical end, according to sources, who said that the Naxals “are now feeling the heat and are on the defensive.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the following statement in response to the continuing operation: “Operations against Naxals will continue… and we will uproot Naxalism from our nation in a very short period of time.”
