People are irritated by unclean drains and non-working lamps in Shimla’s Engine Ghar ward watch

Concerns about broken lighting and clogged drains have grown among Shimla Municipal Corporation residents living in the Engine Ghar ward.

Local Raman said that walking on the road at night is really challenging because of broken lighting. He said that “there is always a fear of getting hurt or attacked by stray animals in the dark.”

The inhabitants also lament that the material that has accumulated in the drains since the last monsoon has not yet been removed. Their worries about waterlogging during rainy seasons have intensified due to the clogged drains. The locals believe that an epidemic of sickness might also be caused by unclean and blocked drains.

Residents of the district are especially irritated by the absence of public parks. Not only do elderly people lack a place to stroll or unwind, but youngsters are also deprived of room to play.

These days, the inhabitants also lament the inconsistent water supply. They said that individuals were finding it challenging to do their everyday tasks since the water supply was only provided on alternate days.

The Tribune was informed by Councillor Ankush Verma that new lighting were being erected and that the majority of the ward’s broken streetlights had been replaced. He predicted that in three to four days, the ward’s streetlight installation project will be completed.

He stated the company had given the contract to a new individual and the work will be finished shortly, blaming the previous contractor for the delay.

He continued by saying that the ward was setting up a parking lot for the convenience of the inhabitants.
