Phagwara: Two people are being held after a man was caught cooking tainted milk

The police arrested three people under the Essential Commodities Act for manufacturing contaminated milk at a dera of Gujjars near Panchhat village in the Phagwara sub-division here yesterday. This is part of the police’s campaign against adulteration, which was started by Kapurthala SSP Vatsala Gupta. One suspect was subsequently taken into custody by the police.

SHO Rawalpindi Laabh Singh added that while the suspect—Hanif, a resident of Kharal-Kalan village close to Bhogpur, Jalandhar—managed to flee, his two accomplices—Balal and Imam, both of Panchhat village—were able to identify themselves.

From the dera, the police have retrieved a drum container, 60 packets of refined oil, a huge bag full of milk powder, and 31 packets of subpar milk powder.

SSP Gupta said that the police will carry out their operation to apprehend individuals who are interfering with people’s health with the support of the Health Department. Senior Medical Officer Dr. Lehmber Ram of Phagwara issued a warning to those engaging in adulteration, advising them to stop this illicit practice.
