Placing pine needles on your table may help prevent wildfires

This was the location of a lecture that was attended by environmental campaigners and Denmark’s ambassador, Freddy Svane. A trip to harvest pine needles came next.

The occasion was a follow-up to the Global Sustainability Awards, 2024, which took place in New Delhi on April 23. The World Earth Day celebration brought together world leaders at the Red Fort.

Participating at the occasion were cricketer Atul Wassan, TV actor and UN recipient Karanveer Bohra, author and renowned climatepreneur Abhinav Talwar, actress and restaurateur Simple Kaul, and renowned author Bharat Joshi.

It is important to note that large-scale forest fires occur annually in the Himalayan areas, contributing to massive carbon emissions and the extinction of local wildlife. Forest fire prevention is being aided by Himalayan Pines, a firm that employs natural materials to make sustainable goods.

In order to reduce the danger of wildfires, its parent business, Vasshin Composites, is an environmental engineering corporation that carries out the vital duty of handpicking pine needles from the sub-Shivalik forest areas.

Through a unique method, they recycle these pine needles to make a variety of durable, plastic-free, ecological dinnerware, hygiene products, and other items. These products lessen carbon footprints in addition to replacing plastic.

The Tribune quoted Vasshin Composites creator Abhinav Talwar as saying, “We at Himalayan Pine are proud to present our products, which could be a pioneering step towards preserving our sub-Shivalik forests.” Our goal is to fight everyday plastic consumption. Himalayan forest fires are a serious environmental issue that have far-reaching effects that go beyond greenhouse gas emissions and include a significant loss of biodiversity.

Talwar acknowledged that a bio-economy centered on Himalayan pine needles was feasible and thanked the visitors for joining in the show of solidarity against forest fires.
