PM denounces Gaza hospital explosion

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his profound grief over the deaths caused by the explosion at a hospital in Gaza and stated that those guilty for the event should be held accountable.

“Deeply disturbed by the horrific death toll at Gaza’s Al Ahli Hospital. Our sincere sympathies go out to the relatives of the deceased, and we send our prayers for the wounded to get quick healing, he said on X.

“Civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict are a serious and ongoing concern,” the PM said. Those responsible need to be held accountable.

According to reports, a devastating explosion at the Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City during the continuing confrontation between Israel and Hamas claimed the lives of over 500 people.

Hamas said that the explosion was the consequence of an Israeli Army airstrike, although the Israel Defense Force denied any involvement in the event. It said that the explosion was caused by an errant missile fired by the Palestinian militant organization Islamic Jihad.

Since Hamas launched a surprise assault on Israel on October 7, India has been attempting to strike a delicate balance. Top international leaders showed their support for Israel after the incident, and PM Modi was one among them. When Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu contacted him last week, he reiterated the same words, denouncing terrorism in all its manifestations.

Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), reaffirmed India’s stance on Palestine last week.

“Our policy has been in place for a while and is dependable. India has consistently pushed for the restart of direct talks to create a sovereign, independent, and viable state of Palestine that coexists peacefully with Israel within recognized boundaries. I believe that stance is still valid, he said.
