Protests by JNUSU over the US envoy visit are still ongoing

The US ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, was the subject of a protest on Tuesday inside the Jawahar Lal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU).

The university’s students’ union has called for a postponement of his visit due to a demonstration in support of Palestine.

Protesters against US actions in the Middle East waved banners that said, among other things, “Free Palestine,” “No more money for Netanyahu,” and “Stop the genocide now” on the JNU campus.

The JNUSU voiced their displeasure with the administration’s choice to invite Garcetti, pointing out that the US Ambassador’s presence went against the school’s commitment to justice, human rights, and unity.

JNUSU released a statement saying, “The US support for Israel in the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict is in direct contradiction to the values we hold dear at JNU.” The student union has been outspoken in its support of Palestine and in denouncing Israel’s activities in Gaza.
