Stamps from Ram Mandir at the Amritsar Post Office

The Amritsar main post office is now selling the commemorative stamps that feature the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, and Ferozepur are served by the philately section of the Amritsar Postal Department. On January 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released these stamps.

For Rs 100, a small sheet of six postal stamps with a Rs 5 value each is being sold. To get the “First Cover,” an additional Rs 50 must be paid.

Although stamps cost Rs 150 on the Department of Posts website, there is an additional Rs 50 for delivery fees.

Ironically, the stamps were being sold for Rs. 455 on two e-commerce sites. These stamps may now be bought in Amritsar, but with a warning to philatelists and the general public, said Satinder Lehari, Postmaster General, Amritsar.

“Purchasing these stamps from private websites is not necessary. We have a lot of stuff on hand,” he said.

Neeraj Jain, a philatelist from Amritsar who obtained these stamps, said that religion and devotion should not be “commercialized.”

“The Department of Posts is offering the stamps at a premium, with a commercial value of Rs 30. The government would make over Rs 100 crore from the sale of these stamps alone if it publishes 10 crore of them, he added. These stamps, according to Lehari, have received particular attention. “Water and sand that were obtained from Ram Janmabhoomi were used to print these stamps.” They smell like sandalwood as well. The little sheet has gold foiled sections, he noted.
