Talk about ABVP without permission: JNU hostel policy

On Saturday, the president of the JNU hostel published a notification in which she claimed that the ABVP had distributed a poster without authorization in order to arrange a discussion on the realities of political violence against women in West Bengal.

“A talk on shattering silence: unveiling the reality of political violence against women in West Bengal” is scheduled to take place at the hostel mess, according to Shreya Nikose, president of the Shipra Hostel. I would want it to be known that in accordance with the regulations, the President and Wardens of the individual hostels must provide their consent before any such event may be conducted in the mess.

“No such authorization was obtained, and as a result, the organizers are attempting to encroach on the autonomy and administrative matters of the hostel and undercut the agency of the residents for the use of the hostel mess,” the speaker said.

“The ABVP is trying to set a wrong precedent through such acts,” the notification said. It is quite unacceptable that the organizers circumvented the process by choosing not to consult the hostel representatives while making decisions on the usage of the hostel’s space.

The authorities of the hostel insisted that the JNU administration take notice of this flagrant breaking of the regulations and make sure that no similar gatherings are arranged without consulting the representatives of the hostel beforehand.
