Teenage Girl Found Dead in Mumbai Clinic; Rape and Suicide Aid Documented by Doctor

An official said on Thursday that police have opened a case against a doctor for suspected rape and aiding and abetting suicide in relation to the death of a young girl whose corpse was discovered at his clinic in the Malad area of Mumbai.

The official said that the event happened on December 28 at the clinic where the girl (whose age was not provided) worked.

The girl was discovered hanging in the doctor’s medical facility. He stated that a team from the Kurar Police Station responded quickly to the alarm and transported the corpse to a hospital maintained by the community for post-mortem examination.

According to the official, the mother of the dead said that her daughter had not committed suicide and that she had complained about the doctor’s impolite behavior.

On the basis of her allegation, he added, the police have filed an offense against the doctor under the relevant parts of the Juvenile Justice Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO Act), and IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 376 (penalty for rape).

A case investigation was in progress.
