The Karnataka government controls the price of tanker water

The State Government on Thursday set a ceiling on tanker water tariffs in response to a protest by Bengalureans over the outrageous fees that private water tankers were charging. Based on the distance, a 6,000-liter water tanker would now cost between Rs 600 and Rs 750, while an 8,000-liter tanker will cost between Rs 700 and Rs 850. In the past, the cost of a 6,000-liter tanker might reach up to Rs 3,000 in places like RR Nagar and other places. The tankers were demanding outrageous prices.

The Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner’s official document states that the cost of a 6,000-liter water tanker is Rs 600, an 8,000-liter tanker is Rs 700, and a 12,000-liter tanker is Rs 1,000. This tariff is limited to a 5-kilometer radius.

A 6,000-litre water tanker would cost Rs 750 for trips over 5 km and within 10 km, Rs 850 for 8,000 litres, and Rs 1,200 for 12,000 litres. The prices shown above all include GST. The price per kilolitre would rise by Rs 50 for each kilolitre above 8,000 to 12,000 liters.

Additionally, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) may now rent water trucks for a certain daily fee, set by the State Government. A 6,000-liter water tanker hires for Rs 5,200, while a 12,000-liter tanker hires for Rs 7,100, without including water. GST is already included in the pricing.

In order to determine the range of prices for private tankers, a technical committee was established to examine the current state of affairs regarding the cost of water tankers and the Public Works Department’s Schedule of Rates (SR Rate).
