Two Kuki women were driven by Manipur police to a crowd that displayed them in their undies: CBI

According to the CBI charge sheet, Manipur Police officers reportedly transported the two Kuki-Zomi ladies, who had taken sanctuary in their official gypsy, to a group of almost a thousand Meiti rioters in Kangpokpi district.

According to the charge sheet, the two ladies were then paraded in their undies and subjected to sexual abuse during the ethnic unrest in the state.

The ladies, one of whom was the wife of a war veteran from Kargil, pleaded with the police to take them to a safe place, but the authorities providing the chargesheet facts said that they were informed that “there was no key” (of the car) and that they did not provide any assistance.

Almost two months after the May 4 incident, in July of last year, a video of two women being paraded naked before a crowd of males went viral.

On October 16 of last year, the CBI appeared before the Special Judge of the CBI Court in Guwahati with its chargesheet against six suspects and a report against one Child in Conflict with the Law (CCL). The two ladies are said to have been fleeing from a crowd of between 900 and 1,000 people who were armed with AK rifles, SLRs, INSAS, and.303 rifles, among other advanced weaponry.

It stated the crowd had broken into their hamlet in the Kangpokpi area, which is located around 68 kilometers south of the Saikul police station. The rioters who had divided the victims saw the ladies running into the forest with the other victims, trying to escape the crowd. According to sources aware of the incident, some mob members advised the ladies to go to the police car that was stopped by the side of the road and ask for assistance. The driver, two police officers, and the two ladies were inside the car when they were able to enter. There were three or four staff members outside the car.

One victim’s spouse had been a subedar in the Assam Regiment of the Indian Army. The CBI said that the police did not intervene to stop the crowd from attacking the man’s father who was seated in the car. Subsequently, the police gypsy’s driver approached and stopped the car in front of a crowd estimated to number 1,000 people. The victims pleaded with the police officers to take them to safety, but they received no assistance.
