Watch as PM Modi and Speaker Om Birla pay respect to slain jawans after 22 years of attacks on Parliament

On the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, President JP Nadda of the BJP, President Mallikarjun Kharge of the Congress, Chairperson Sonia Gandhi of the Congress Parliamentary Party, and other dignitaries convened at the Parliament on Wednesday to honor the fallen jawans.

On December 13, 2001, terrorists from the Pakistan-based groups Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba attacked the Parliament complex, killing nine people. The security personnel shot and killed all five of the attackers.

“Nation eternally indebted”
Additionally, President Droupadi Murmu urged everyone to reaffirm their commitment to ending terrorism and stated that the country will always be grateful to the courageous security professionals who gave their lives in the 2001 terror assault on Parliament. “On this day, 22 years ago, the nefarious plan of terrorists to eliminate the top line of the political leadership of the country and damage our Temple of Democracy was foiled by the brave security personnel, including the nine who laid down their lives for the motherland,” Murmu said in a post to ‘X’. She said that their obligation to the country will never go away. “Their sacrifice will not be allowed to go in vain as we reiterate today our pledge to wipe out terrorism — a threat to humankind everywhere — in all its forms and manifestations,” stated President Obama.
