Watch How the Largest Anti-Maoist Operation in Chhattisgarh Was Conducted Three Days Before the Lok Sabha Elections

Security forces in Chhattisgarh initiated a bold offensive against Maoist militants in an attempt to prevent any disturbances during the Lok Sabha elections.

According to intelligence sources, this was the first time that security troops had ventured into the most difficult terrain for this kind of task. The clash on Tuesday in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh resulted in the neutralization of at least 29 Naxalites.

Around 2:00 pm, the encounter started in the deep Hapatola forest close to Binagunda hamlet in the Kanker area. A team from the state police’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Border Security Force (BSF) worked together to perform the operation. Three people were wounded during the gunfight: two BSF members and one DRG member.

The operation started when BSF Inspector Ramesh Chandra Chaudhary’s battalion came under fire from Maoist rebels perched atop a mountain. With powerful machine guns in hand, the soldiers quickly drove the rebels back toward the river.

The Maoists ran into another District Reserve Guard (DRG) unit as they sought to escape. The troops achieved a big success in the subsequent exchange by neutralizing a considerable threat, which included the Divisional and Area Commanders. The fact that seventeen automatic weapons were recovered added to the proof that the operation was successful and showed that many of the militants who were killed had prominent positions in the Maoist hierarchy.
An official statement from BSF:

During the anti-maoist operation, a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition were found. “From the scene, seven AK-series rifles and three light machine guns have been found. One BSF employee was shot in the leg during the EOF, however he was evacuated without further harm and is now safe,” the BSF said.

It is noteworthy because this is one of the largest Naxal losses. In the Dantewada region, 14 Naxals were slain last month.

Vishnu Deo, the chief minister of Chhattisgarh, commended the security forces for their effective operation against the Naxalites. “It really is a huge accomplishment… During this operation, a combined DRG and BSF detachment came upon several Naxalites, of whom 29 have been confirmed deceased. Following the confrontation, three jawans sustained injuries, for which they are receiving treatment.

I extend my congratulations to all jawans and security officers who took part in this momentous event. It seems that the Naxalites intended to sabotage the April 19 Bastar region elections. The chief minister of Chhattisgarh said reporters, “The administration wants these Naxalites to become mainstream.
