Will the BJP and Cong candidates in Karnataka’s Haveri change?

Although names have already been declared, there can be a change in the candidates running for the Haveri Lok Sabha seat.

Following the announcement by the BJP of former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai as their candidate, the Congress is considering persuading minister HK Patil to run from this position. However, there are rumors circulating in the party that Jagadish Shettar, another former chief minister, would be invited to run from this area in place of Bommai, but local officials have not yet received confirmation of this.

BJP leaders have had to reconsider their approach despite the fact that Shettar was predicted to win the Belagavi seat with ease. A “Go back Shettar” campaign has been launched by certain local party officials in Belagavi, who have also displayed banners on the city’s major thoroughfares.

Anandswamy Gaddadevarmath, a Congress candidate in Haveri, has already begun his campaign, but party officials believe Bommai may be a stronger opponent for him. According to party insiders, Patil is being persuaded to run because of this. Both sides are gathering ground survey information from every taluk and calculating the caste equations. With more MLAs from Haveri and Gadag districts than any other district, Congress is certain that it would win this time. The lawmakers promised the senior party officials that they would do all in their power to support the party’s nominee. There are more than 6.5 lakh Lingayats, three lakh minorities, three lakh Kurubas, three lakh Muslims, and others living in the BJP stronghold of Haveri.

“People will vote for Bommai, but we don’t know about Shettar’s candidature from here,” a BJP leader said, wishing to remain anonymous. Our candidates are safe as the electorate supports Modi in the Lok Sabha elections.

Haveri-based Congress politician Anil Patil said, “We are now running for Anandswamy.” We have no doubts about our victory. People are responding well, and they may prefer a different approach this time.
