A “New Beginning”: Ravi Bishnoi to Participate for Gujarat Ahead of the Upcoming Domestic Season 2023–2024

Before the next domestic 2023–24 season, Indian leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi chose to quit the Rajasthan state squad and join Gujarat.

Bishnoi announced on Instagram that he would play for the Gujrat state team for the next season.

The leg spinner, who is from Jodhpur, only appeared in one first-class encounter for Rajasthan in 2022, apart from a few List-A and T20 contests. Due to his lack of chances, he has chosen to leave Rajasthan and join Gujarat.

Bishnoi posted a picture of himself wearing the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) shirt on his Instagram account. Bishnoi added the caption, “New beginning.”

Anil Patel, the secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, who verified the development, said that Bishnoi’s eligibility to play for Gujarat still required just a little amount of paperwork.

“We are prepared to accept him, and he is eager to join. He will represent Gujarat and everything is in order. He must organize the papers before sending it to BCCI for the last-minute legalities. However, when all is said and done, we are prepared to accept him, Patel told Cricketnext.

Bishnoi will be under the guidance of seasoned leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who also competes for Gujarat in domestic cricket. Chawla has a wealth of knowledge that Bishnoi can benefit from. Bishnoi’s career took off after the IPL 2022 season, and on October 6, 2022, he played his first ODI for India against South Africa.

Prior to taking his first international wicket, he conceded 69 runs. Despite this, the spinner was later dismissed from the team and did not make the T20 World Cup roster last year.

Bishnoi was also a member of the T20I team, but he was benched during the Asia Cup and hasn’t played since. He had another outstanding IPL 2023 season, finishing with 16 wickets for the Lucknow Super Giants in 15 matches, making him the team’s highest wicket-taker.

The young player kept up a respectable economy rate of 7.74 and has since been trying to get back into the Indian squad. It would be intriguing to see whether Bishnoi can make the cut given that the India team for the forthcoming five-match T20I series has not yet been revealed.

According to rumors, the BCCI plans to send a backup men’s squad to the Asian Games later this year. Bishnoi will be aiming for his comeback by trying to stand out for his new team Gujarat on the local circuit.
