After the Duleep Trophy, Prithvi Shaw is likely to play for Northamptonshire

After concluding his Duleep Trophy obligations later this month, talented Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw will play for English county team Northamptonshire.

The 23-year-old is presently out of the running for the India team, and it is said that those close to him have urged him to spend some time in the UK to polish up his technique and get back into the swing of things by playing matches consistently over time.

“Yes, Prithvi would go after completing his Duleep Trophy task for West Zone. If all goes according to plan, he should play in the Somerset match on July 19–22, a source close to the player told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

The Northants’ brisk opener is anticipated to play the full Royal London Cup one-day competition.

Shaw, who had scored a huge 379 against Assam in a Ranji match, didn’t have a great IPL for Delhi Capitals, but given his talent, one expects that county stint to help him rediscover his mojo and be in national contention after the ODI World Cup, when another round of transition would take place across the formats.

The Deodhar Trophy inter-zonal one-day match, which begins on July 24, would be missed by Prithvi if he departs for the UK after the Duleep final (July 12–16). However, it is anticipated that the BCCI hierarchy would give him permission to play in the UK, where he will likely face a Division 1 bowling attack of higher calibre than what he would encounter in India.
