Australia Announces T20 WC 2024 Squad: Steve Smith, Jake Fraser Mc-Gurk, Mitchell Marsh in the Lead Avoid Finding SPOTS

Sydney: After much anticipation, Cricket Australia has finally unveiled the 15-player team that will represent Australia in the T20 World Cup, which will be held in the USA and the West Indies. The biggest shocks are not selecting Steve Smith and the very effective Jake Fraser-McGurk, even though Mitchell Marsh is expected to captain the team.

The two Western Australians chosen for the 15-man roster for the T20 tournament in June are Ashton Agar and Cameron Green, who have both been out of the international T20 cricket scene for about 18 months.

After serving as the T20I team’s temporary captain for the last 12 months, Mitch Marsh has been officially named captain of the seasoned team vying for their second men’s T20 championship.

Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, and Adam Zampa comprise Australia’s T20 World Cup team.

“Playing for my country has been an enormous privilege, and leading the team to a World Cup is now an even greater honor,” said Marsh, whose appointment as T20I captain was approved by the Cricket Australia Board on Wednesday morning.

“We’ve had some great results lately, and I’m hoping that continues in what appears to be a very competitive tournament.”

Smith has been a reliable presence for Australia in their last five white-ball World Cup matches, which they have won in 2021 (T20), 2015, and 2023 (ODI).

The 34-year-old, who participated in the 2010 Caribbean T20 World Cup, is a fixture on the Australian World Cup roster and has not missed one since 2014.
