Chahal hugs Kohli, Ashwin kisses Shami’s hands as Team India celebrates their semifinal victory

When Rohit Sharma & Co. arrived at the team hotel on Wednesday night, the chanting could be heard echoing in the foyer. After defeating New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium to get to the fourth final in the history of the ODI World Cup, they had returned.

In the semi-finals, Team India gave an outstanding display of their abilities. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer were the top four scorers for the blue team, who chose to bat first and amassed 397 in 50 overs. In response, Shami smashed the Kiwis by alone, amassing the greatest-ever bowling stats for India in One-Day Internationals (7 for 57 in 9.5 overs).

After the win, the Indian dressing was bursting with enthusiasm. After breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI hundreds, Kohli welcomed and hugged almost every member of his squad, including skipper Rohit Sharma. Ashwin congratulated Shami for reaching an incredible milestone by kissing his hands.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who was watching the match from the stands, stopped into the dressing room to say hello to players including Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah.

The emotions were caught on film by the BCCI, which then posted the clip on its official Instagram account.

“Surreal happiness and raw feelings after a memorable victory at Wankhede. The caption said, “Thank you to all of the fans for the steadfast support.”

We had the pressure, Rohit

Before Wednesday’s World Cup quarterfinal here, the Indian squad felt a little under pressure, as captain Rohit Sharma was willing to acknowledge.

Since this is the semifinal, I won’t claim that there wasn’t any pressure; in fact, the semifinal tends to increase pressure. Rohit said during the post-match presentation, “But we don’t want to think too much about it and just do what we’ve been doing like in the first nine games.”

“We anticipated facing difficulties. We were a little careless on the field, but we were quite composed. These problems will inevitably occur, but I’m delighted we were able to finish the task,” he said.
