For the T20 World Cup, Sunil Narine ruled out the West Indies’ comeback

In the current IPL, the bowling all-rounder has been a standout for the Kolkata Knight Riders as an opening batsman, amassing 286 runs, including a half-ton and a century.

In a season with plenty of runs scored, he has claimed nine wickets with his mysterious spin and restricted the opposition’s run rate with an economy of 7.10.

The 35-year-old was pushed by West Indies skipper Rovman Powell to return for the World Cup in June, which the region will co-host with the United States.

“I’m genuinely touched and humbled that so many people have expressed publicly that they would like me to come out of retirement and play in the next T20 World Cup,” Narine posted on social media.

“That door is now closed, and even though I never want to disappoint, I have come to terms with that decision. I will be rooting for the guys who play for the West Indies in June.”

Four years after he last competed for the West Indies in a Twenty20 match, Narine declared his retirement from international cricket in 2023.

In his statement, he also said, “I wish you all the best, guys, who have worked hard these past few months and deserve to show our amazing fans that they can win another title.”

Since making his debut in 2011, Narine has played in 51 T20Is, 65 ODIs, and 6 Test matches for the West Indies. In T20Is, he has claimed 52 wickets; in ODIs, 92; and in Test matches, 21.
