Glenn McGrath Advises Caution When Using Bumrah in 50-Over Cricket

Jasprit Bumrah will skipper India in the three-match T20I series against Ireland, making his long-awaited return from injury.

The fact that India’s premier fast bowler will be back in action before the ICC World Cup in 2023 is quite encouraging.

Bumrah’s road hasn’t been easy; because to injuries, he was forced to withdraw from the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 Indian Premier League.

Glenn McGrath, a great Australian bowler, voiced worry about Bumrah’s injury issues and cautioned that he may not be able to manage the strain required to continue his career.

“He (Bumrah) has been fantastic for India.” I like his bowling statistics, the wickets he has taken, and the style he bowls, but his bowling movement puts a lot of strain on his body. As a result, he must maintain his strength and fitness. “If he does that, he might be able to play for a few more years,” McGrath said.

“With the current international schedule and the IPL, there is no off-season for a fast bowler anymore, especially someone like Jasprit, who needs an off-season to re-establish his strength.” So that’s a choice he has to make (whether to abandon one of the forms). Playing all three forms is becoming more difficult. That is something Jasprit will have to consider in the future since what he performs is unique and difficult on his body. I believe he has a lot more to contribute in his career.”

According to MCGrath, who used instances from current cricket to buttress his argument, Bumrah can learn from some of the finest bowlers in the world.

“A lot of cricket is played these days.” It puts a load on your body, but you must know how to heal and find time to rebuild your strength. Guys like James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and Courtney Walsh were able to play for many years because they understood how to maintain their bodies. “I worked hard on my fitness, and I had an easy action that made my injury recovery easier,” he added.
