Hockey tournament honoring Arjan Singh is won by Punjab and Sind Bank

In today’s 5th Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament at No. 3 Base Repair Depot (BRD) Raghbir Singh Bhola Hockey Stadium, Punjab & Sind Bank (PSB) defeated Indian Air Force (IAF) 12-11 in the tie-break finish final.

After the allotted 70 minutes, the game concluded in a 3-3 tie. In the penalty shootout that followed, the bank team defeated the hosts 9–8.

With a field goal in the second minute by Haramanjit Singh, the PSB boys were fortunate to take an early lead. But the hosts quickly put an end to the celebration as they scored three goals in a row. In the sixth minute, Lovedeep Singh equalized the score with a penalty corner conversion, and in the eighth minute, Davinder Singh increased the advantage to 1-2 with a field goal.

Davinder scored the team’s second goal to make it 1-3 in the very next minute, giving the IAF a commanding advantage. The IAF midfielders slowed down the game after four goals in the opening ten minutes of play. The presenter made every effort to grab the lead.

But the bank side made a significant breakthrough when they were awarded a penalty corner near the thirty-minute mark. Without fail, Rajinder Singh broke the impasse by sounding the wooden board. Following this goal, the PSB boys gained confidence, and Haramanjit’s goal in the 46th minute tied the score.

After then, the score didn’t change until the last whistle. Additionally, the PSB demonstrated their superiority in the tie-break by scoring on nine of their opportunities while the hosts converted eight and missed one.

Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, the Chief of the Air Staff, together with Air Commodore Rajiv Shrivastava, AOC 3BRD, and Group Captain Manpreet Singh, Chief Administrative Officer 3BRD, officially proclaimed the event ended and presented the winners.

Rajinder Singh of PSB was named Player of the Tournament, while Lovdeep Singh of the IAF was named Man of the Match. The principal guest also paid tributes to senior players, such as Dr. AK Bansal, recipient of the Dronacharya award, and Prabhjot Singh, Rajpal Singh, and Rani Rampal, recipients of the Arjuna award. The air forces of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were among the twelve teams that took part in the competition.
