IND vs. ENG: Coach Rahul Dravid’s record is surpassed by Rohit Sharma’s incredible feat as India’s Test captain

In Ranchi, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma became the first captain to beat England under head coach Brendon McCullum’s tenure. The victory sealed a 3-1 series as the hosts overcame Ben Stokes’ team by five wickets.

After losing the first game of the series in Hyderabad by a score of 28 runs, India produced a remarkable comeback. The home team won three straight games to seal the series, with the championship game scheduled for March 7 in Dharamsala. They did this by relying on their youth in the absence of more experienced players.

Rohit has eclipsed head coach Rahul Dravid to become the joint-fifth most successful Indian Test captain after winning three straight Tests in India. Alongside Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (nine victories in 40 Tests) and Sunil Gavaskar (nine wins in 47 Tests), Rohit led his team to their ninth Test victory in 15 games to draw.

In his 25 games as captain of India, Dravid has eight Test victories. With 40 victories in 68 matches, star batsman Virat Kohli continues to be India’s most successful Test skipper in history. On the list, Kohli has eclipsed MS Dhoni, who had won 27 Tests out of 60 games for his nation. Mohamad Azharuddin, with 14 victories in 47 Tests, is ranked second, after Sourav Ganguly, who has 21 victories in 49 Tests.

With 10 victories, Rohit can become the fifth-most successful Test skipper for India, surpassing two legends in the match.

With three red-ball victories over England, Rohit also matched MS Dhoni’s record for Test leadership against them. Ajit Wadekar and Azharuddin, two former captains, have also won three Test matches against England. With a record 10 Test victories over England while serving as captain, Kohli leads the list.
