Nita Ambani’s efforts are really impressive, and India’s Olympic spirit is awakening, according to IOC President Thomas Bach

In advance of the IOC session taking place in Mumbai from October 15–17, Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said that the Indian Olympic spirit is awakening and rising.

India is hosting the IOC session for the first time in 40 years. The 86th IOC session has been held in New Delhi in 1983.

The top governing body of the Olympic movement is the IOC session. The approval or modification of the Olympic Charter, the election of IOC members and office holders, and the choice of the Olympic host city are among the major issues it debates and makes decisions on.

The famous event is expected to mark the beginning of a new phase of interaction between the nation’s young people and the Olympic movement. India is on the verge of becoming a sports superpower after winning the most medals ever—seven—at the most recent Olympics in Tokyo, including the first-ever individual Gold medal in track and field. They also returned from the just finished Asian Games with the highest-ever medal haul.

“We could clearly see and understand that India’s Olympic spirit is awakening and developing. With a record amount of medals won at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, the Indian team is displaying highly promising results. India is now the second-largest country in terms of Olympic fans, according to our social media for the Olympics, Bach stated on Thursday.

“I visited the Reliance Foundation and the programs they are delivering there to the kids and young with relation to their sport and education together with our IOC colleague and friend Nita Ambani. Since there are children from all throughout India at this center, I must admit that I am quite amazed by what Reliance and her staff are doing there. The majority of them come from impoverished backgrounds, Bach said.

Nita Ambani, the first Indian woman to be elected as an IOC member in 2016, presented a convincing case for Mumbai to host the 2023 IOC session during the 139th IOC session in Beijing in February 2022, and the city earned a resounding 99% of the vote.

The students are given the chance to attend school while also receiving the opportunity to prepare to be athletes. This is something that reflects our approach and our Olympic ideals completely. It is quite remarkable and inspiring to see that the Reliance Foundation, a private organization, is carrying out this work, Bach remarked.

“And the political establishment has also been quite supportive of it. In Maharashtra, we met with the chief minister and his team, who are also fully supportive of the sports movement. Therefore, we fervently hope that we will soon hear from the IOA with some encouraging news,” the IOC president stated.

The cutting-edge Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai will serve as the venue for the IOC session. The JWC is the biggest convention center in India and opened for business in early 2022. It is located in the center of the city at the Bandra Kurla Complex. The opening ceremony will take place in the great theater of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), and the session meeting will take place in the exhibition hall (pavilion).
