Premier League: Pochettino angry with Chelsea’s lack of consistency after Arsenal’s crushing

Only days after Chelsea put up a strong fight against Manchester City in an FA Cup semi-final match, their 5-0 hammering against Arsenal in the Premier League on Tuesday left manager Mauricio Pochettino fuming at his team’s lack of consistency.

Leandro Trossard gave the Emirates the lead early on, but Ben White and Kai Havertz, a former Chelsea player, both scored twice in the second half to complete the north London club’s biggest-ever victory in the meeting.

Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for Europe the next season were severely damaged by the loss, which came after they had gone eight games without losing in the league.

“We cannot and I will not, place the responsibility on the players. We cannot hold young men responsible for coming here to fight against a Premier League-winning club after going through some difficult times.

“It is true we are disappointed with our performance, but I am not going to say something which is unfair to describe our team, our players, and our squad.”

Arsenal vs. Chelsea: The Unbelievable Reality With a 5-0 hammering of London rivals Chelsea on Tuesday, Arsenal laid down the gauntlet in the Premier League championship fight and moved three points ahead of Chelsea at the top of the league.

Any lingering concerns about Arsenal’s durability were dispelled as soon as Leandro Trossard gave them the lead. Ben White and Kai Havertz then scored twice each in a brilliant burst of goals after the interval to completely overwhelm a stunned Chelsea.

Arsenal made a strong statement, increasing the pressure on Liverpool and Manchester City with four games left after their remarkable comeback from an Aston Villa home loss and elimination from the Champions League.

Arsenal leads Liverpool, who play Everton on Wednesday, by 77 points from 34 games. The defending champions, Manchester City, have 73 points, but they still have two games remaining, beginning on Thursday with a trip to Brighton and Hove Albion.

It was the sixth Premier League game this season in which Arsenal scored five goals or more without giving up a goal, and in a race this close, their enormous goal differential lead might prove to be vital to the result.

After that, Chelsea will visit fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur on May 2 and go to fourth-place Aston Villa on Saturday.
