Ravindra Jadeja’s wicket and Virat Kohli’s century help India defeat South Africa by 243 runs in the World Cup

Virat Kohli, who turned 16 on Sunday, scored a record-tying 49th ODI century, and Ravindra Jadeja claimed five wickets as India defeated South Africa by 243 runs to win their eighth World Cup.

On Sunday, Kohli, who turned 35, amassed 101 runs without conceding an extra boundary off 121 balls, matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record. He also partnered with Shreyas Iyer (77) for 134 runs, leading India to a commanding 326 for five.

After that, the Proteas were bowled out for 83 in 27.1 overs by Jadeja (5/33) Mohammed Shami (2/18), and Kuldeep Yadav (2/7), who bowled outstanding spells.

Earlier, when the hosts decided to bat, openers Rohit Sharma (40 off 24 balls) and Shubman Gill (23) gave India a strong start with a 62-run partnership.

With two sixes and six boundaries in his thrilling innings, Rohit’s barrage of blows allowed India to reach 50 runs in only 4.3 overs.

After Gill and Rohit left, Kohli and Iyer joined forces and pounded the Proteas bowlers all over the field. Jadeja led India to a substantial score with a spectacular cameo 29-run effort off 15 balls.

South Africa and India have already guaranteed spots in the semifinals.
