Records Fall as India Takes Control of the Second Test Against the West Indies Thanks to Virat Kohli’s Unbeaten 87

A number of significant events occurred on Day 1 of the second Test between India and the West Indies at Port of Spain. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja helped put their team in the lead at the conclusion of play. After the third session, India had a final score of 288/4. Virat Kohli concluded the day undefeated at 87 in his 500th international match, while Ravindra Jadeja finished with 36 off 84 balls.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal earned his second fifty, adding another feather to his crown, but the youngster lost out on a well-deserved century. Rohit Sharma had earlier struck a fifty and had already accomplished a number of milestones.

It was a momentous occasion when India and West Indies played red-ball cricket for the 100th time. Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and decided to bowl first on a sluggish pitch, and both captains were honored for the historic accomplishment.

Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma maintained their outstanding batting form by each scoring fifty runs, leading India to a total of 121 before lunch.

After lunch, Rohit and Yashasvi got off to a good start, but Jaiswal died shortly after reaching 57, while Shubman Gill kept having trouble at number three, scoring only 10 runs.

After Rohit Sharma left the game after scoring an 80-run innings, Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli put up a 27-run partnership.

Rahane left just before lunch, and India was in trouble after losing four wickets in the second session, which was dominated by West Indies.

Following tea, Kohli was joined by Ravindra Jadeja, and the two of them went on to score 106 runs together at Stumps.

In addition to being the fifth-highest international run-scorer, overtaking Jacques Kallis, Kohli became the first batsman to register a fifty in his 500th international game. No one had ever done so before.

Prior to Day 2, the 34-year-old is about to score his 76th century. Rohit also reached a significant milestone by surpassing the 2000 run threshold for Test openers and finishing the 2000 run threshold for the World Test Championship (WTC).

In the year 2023, Virat also reached the milestone of 2000 runs in WTC history and surpassed all previous run scorers in Test cricket.
