Sergio Perez Describes His Strategy for the Remainder of the Formula One Season

After coming in second place behind his outstanding Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen in the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday, Sergio Perez declared his intention to remain on the Formula One podium for the remainder of the season.

The Mexican’s second position stopped a string of disappointing finishes and was his best finish since Miami in May, when he finished second.

After 12 of 22 races, Perez is now 125 points behind Verstappen, who has won the past eight races, and is currently second in the championship overall.

From this point until the end of the year, I really want to stay on the podium. It’s been a little bit of a hard stretch, but I believe we got through it, and today we were able to get some nice team points,” he remarked.

Perez earned his sixth podium in a season that has also resulted in two victories for him.

Although it was a relief, he had started on the first row and had taken the lead on the opening lap, whilst Verstappen had lined up sixth but still won by 22.3 seconds.

Verstappen will compete at his native Netherlands’ Grand Prix at Zandvoort, where he has won the past two years in front of adoring supporters.

“I need the summer off badly. I’m looking forward to it and want to return very strongly for Zandvoort since the past three races have been so tough, remarked Perez.

It provides us some time to thoroughly analyze our data, determine how we can improve for the next 10 races, and, in general, maintain the momentum for the remainder of the season.

After qualifying, Perez also clarified to team manager Christian Horner a cryptic radio remark made by the Mexican driver, who remarked, “You’ll talk to me now” without clarifying its importance.

He said, “It was a prank.

‘If you’re not in the top three, I will not speak to you the rest of the weekend,’ he declared before qualifying. He then continued to speak with me over the weekend.
