T20 World Cup Squad Still Not Finalized: Rohit Sharma Says “Can’t Keep Everyone Happy, Have to Focus on Team’s Needs”

In the last bilateral T20I series before the World Cup, India defeated Afghanistan 3-0 in Bengaluru thanks to an exciting victory. The management has experimented with a number of players and even a number of leaders since its elimination from the competition’s last iteration, which took place in Australia in 2021. The 15-person team that would go to the United States and the West Indies for the main tournament has not yet been finalized by the think tank.

After a 14-month break, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma returned to the shortest format and left a lasting impression. This was in the midst of doubts about their T20I prospects. Following back-to-back ducks, the Indian captain struck a record fifth T20I century and also achieved his highest-ever total in the event. However, even though Kohli may not have scored a lot of runs, his quickness on the field was evident.

It will not be an easy assignment when the Indian team management meets down with the selectors to choose the roster for the next World Cup, with numerous outstanding young players in the mix. After the third T20I ended, Rohit spoke with Jio Cinema and expressed his disappointment for the players who, despite their good performances, are left out the World Cup rosters.

It is difficult in part because you have to test out a lot of players. Similar to how we tested out a lot of youngsters for T20s when we were participating in the ODI World Cup. They play, but some lads have to be left out when the announcement of the main team is made. They find it unsatisfying as a result. Our role is to provide the team with clarity, however. We shouldn’t be wanting to accomplish one thing when another is taking place. As a result, every player in our 25–30 player pool is aware of what is expected of them, according to Rohit.

The captain of India went on to say that the World Cup team has not yet been finalized. He continued by saying that since players are chosen based on the needs of the club, it might be difficult to make everyone pleased by giving them a spot on the squad.

“The T20 World Cup team has not yet been finalized, but you are undoubtedly aware of the eight to ten players that will compete. The combination is then chosen after considering the circumstances of the destination, according to Rohit.

We must choose the team in accordance with the sluggish circumstances in the West Indies. I reiterate: that Rahul Bhai and I have made an effort to keep the team’s communication clear. I’ve learned one thing from being a captain: you can’t satisfy everyone. You need to pay attention to what the team needs,” he said.
