Virender Sehwag Requested “GBP 10,000 A Day” of Commentary from Sky Sports. This Was The Reaction

One of the rare celebrities who never hesitates to call a spade a spade is Virender Sehwag. In a recent exchange, he disclosed how he had declined an English broadcaster’s invitation to be a panelist. He revealed this to legendary Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist. Despite Sehwag’s desire to be a panelist on Sky Sports, the business arrangement devolved into a lighthearted banter as the former India opener revealed the fee he would want.

“I was contacted by Sky Sports and told, “We would be delighted to have you join our panel. ‘But you can’t afford me,’ I replied. However, they said, “No, give me your price,” Sehwag stated on the podcast Club Prairie Fire.

“I told them I couldn’t afford it, but they insisted on asking for the money. ‘Yeah, you’re right, we can’t,’ they said when I replied, ‘Okay, GBP 10,000 a day.'” Sehwag continued.

In the course of the conversation, Sehwag disclosed that he had previously rejected a $100,000 offer from a BBL team.

Gilchrist questioned Sehwag whether Indian players will ever compete in the Big Bash League, which sparked the debate. Sehwag cleverly said that because Indian cricket players are wealthy, there is no need.

Adam Gilchrist: Do you think Indian players will ever be allowed to compete in other Twenty20 leagues?

Virender Sehwag: “It’s not necessary. We don’t go to underdeveloped nations because we are wealthy (laughs).

After that, Sehwag related his own experience of declining a significant BBL deal.

“No, we don’t need it; we’re wealthy and don’t go to underdeveloped nations to play in other leagues. I vividly remember being pulled from the Indian squad when I was playing in the IPL. I then received an invitation from the BBL to play in the Big Bash, and I asked them how much money they would be offering. They responded with $100,000. I can use that money for my vacations, he remarked, adding that the cost from last night was over $100,000.
