Watch as WI legend grabs an Indian fan’s leg as Chris Gayle and Ali Khan begin their T20 World Cup trophy trip in New York

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to begin in the Caribbean and the United States of America in 70 days, but the International Cricket Council (ICC) has already started to generate excitement among online users as the trophy tour began in New York on Monday, March 18, following advertising campaigns and promotional materials. Legend Chris Gayle of the West Indies and American bowler Ali Khan were there to welcome the supporters as they carried the trophy to the summit of the Empire State Building.

Commencing on June 1st, the 20-team competition is expected to be an unparalleled spectacle, taking place at nine different sites around the United States and the West Indies. Gayle decided to have some fun as well, since the enthusiasm among the crowd at the Empire State Building throughout the tour was evident. Gayle was being himself as always, having a good time with the press and fans. As Gayle was taking a photo with one of the fans, an Indian woman, she inquired about his tournament preferences.

Gayle chose the West Indies, which was a clear disappointment to her. To make matters worse, he chose India as the runners-up, which saddened her even more considering the Men in Blue’s recent ICC knockout performance.

India is placed in Group A with Pakistan, Ireland, the United States, and Canada, while the two-time champion West Indies are grouped with nations like Afghanistan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand. Two teams from each of the four groups of five that comprise the teams will proceed to the Super 8 round. Teams will be split into two groups of four for the Super Eight, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
