If the owners do not pay the licence fee, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation will charge hefty fines and confiscate the pets

The majority of residents have not renewed their dogs’ required licenses, thus the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will send teams to verify each dog’s license door to door in the city. If people break the regulations, they risk having their dogs taken away or paying a heavy fee of Rs 5,000 for each dog.

Just 4,000 of the 8,200 licensed dog owners from the previous year have complied with the requirement that their pet licenses expire on March 31 of each year. Since it is unclear what vaccinations unauthorized dogs have had, this ignored public safety and cost the city money.

“Those who do not follow the regulations regarding the ownership of pets may be subject to a fine or even have their pets seized.” The regulations will be severely enforced since they emphasize how crucial responsible pet ownership is to the welfare of animals and society, according to chief veterinary officer Abhinav Verma, who was cited by news agency IANS.

“Since the regulations emphasize how crucial responsible pet ownership is to the welfare of both animals and the community, they will be strictly enforced.” The verification push would begin after the first two weeks of December, he said.

Every dog owner is required by law to get an annual license from LMC. If a person has a 200 square yard space, they can keep up to two dogs, and if they have a 400 square yard area, they may maintain up to four dogs. The dogs that are seized and whose owners do not follow the guidelines will be kept at the LMC dog shelter in Indiranagar until the fine is paid.

The breed determines the license costs. Dogs of mixed or foreign breeds must pay a licensing fee of Rs 1,000 each, while Indian types only pay Rs 200 for each dog. After one year of age, dogs must likewise be sterilized.
