In a case involving illicit sand mining, the CBI summoned Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday

NEW DELHI: The CBI has called UP former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday to discuss its investigation into an unreported sand mining case under the supervision of the high court. Under Section 160 of the CrPC, a notice has been sent indicating that his testimony would now be recorded in the capacity of a witness.

“It happens when elections are around the corner,” said the chief of the state police, who has been invited to appear at the agency’s Delhi headquarters.

A CBI notification arrived in 2019 before the Lok Sabha elections. It’s poll time once again, and I received a message.”
During the SP’s administration, illicit mining occurred in the Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh between 2012 and 2016.
“13 projects cleared in a single day” when Akhilesh was in charge of mining
It was claimed that the then-mining minister, Gayatri Prajapati, had unlawfully extended and issued new leases in a way that resulted in significant losses for the state exchequer and unjust profit for him and his allies. In response to an order from Allahabad High Court that natural resources must not be allowed to be plundered and requesting that the agency look into any government official complicity, the CBI arrived on the site in July 2016.
Senior UP officials allegedly approved 13 projects in a single day on February 17, 2013, in flagrant disregard for established protocols, according to the CBI. 2012–13 saw Akhilesh, who was CM at the time, oversee the mining portfolio. After that, Prajapati became the minister in charge of mining.
Eleven individuals and one unidentified public worker were named in the First Information Report (FIR) for allegedly abusing their positions to permit the illicit extraction of minor minerals. According to the CBI’s investigation, authorities had unlawfully extended current leases, issued new leases, and allowed current leaseholders to have their terms of occupancy impeded without adhering to a bidding process.
