Teen killed by farmer in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, for’stealing phone’; farmer subsequently discovers phone at home

PILIBHIT: In Bithaura village in Gajraula, a farmer has been detained on suspicion of robbing a neighborhood adolescent of his cell phone, which is said to be worth around ₹5,000. The incident reportedly resulted in the teen’s death. According to investigators, the accused subsequently discovered the phone at his own house.

After Kapil Kumar, 17, was reportedly beaten to death on April 12 by Kallu, 26, the man went on the run after the boy’s father filed a police report.

On Monday, a special police squad located him close to Pilibhit Medical College. He confessed to the murder during questioning, providing insight into the circumstances behind the small child’s terrible death.

In his FIR, Kapil’s father, Shravan Kumar, claimed a long-running rivalry between three people and accused them of murder.

However, when the authorities realized that the lost phone was the real reason for the crime, their investigations took a drastically different path. Kallu admitted to kidnapping Kapil on the evening of April 12 during a wedding procession when he related the facts to the authorities. After Kapil insisted again and again that he had not taken the phone, he beat him and finally strangled him.

Kallu informed the police that he had located the lost phone at his residence some hours later. “He rushed to the field in the hopes of finding Kapil alive, but he had passed away. Circle officer Deepak Chaturvedi said, “Kallu tried to hide his crime by disposing of the body in a nearby wheat field owned by another farmer.”

On April 14, in the evening, his family and the townspeople discovered Kapil’s death at the property.
