UP: Police Suspect Honour Killing, Woman Shot Dead by Kin

In Alipur Aterna village in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, a 22-year-old lady who had eloped and wed a year earlier was reportedly shot dead by a family member. Police believe this was an honor killing.

The incident happened on Wednesday night in the vicinity of the Budhana police station in the Muzaffarnagar district.

After being married in court a few days before, the victim, Farhana, had just returned to the village. She was reportedly shot and killed by a family member while on her way to get medications, according to authorities.

The accused left the scene after the murder. According to Deputy SP Vinay Gautam, the corpse was submitted for a post-mortem on Thursday.

The village chief said that the homicide may have occurred because the victim’s family disapproved of the connection.
