A Vietnamese man has a live 30-cm eel removed from his abdomen during emergency surgery

After suffering excruciating agony, a 34-year-old Vietnamese man had emergency surgery to remove a 30-cm live eel from his belly. According to a local newspaper, the event occurred on March 20 when the guy from Lang Son went to the hospital, claiming to have excruciating stomach discomfort.

Following many ultrasonography and X-ray examinations, the medical professionals determined that surgery would be the most appropriate treatment after realizing a foreign item was creating severe issues in his intestines.

They were shocked to discover, however, that the item was a live eel about the size of a standard school ruler. The eel had to have a damaged portion of his gut removed, however.

The guy is still in the hospital recuperating after a successful procedure. He is still a little uncomfortable, but things should improve for him eventually.

Physicians at Quang Ninh Province’s Hai Ha District Medical Center speculated that the eel got into the man’s anus and passed through his colon. Pham Manh Hung, Head of Surgery, told the local media It’s an uncommon instance. Although the rectal region is prone to bacterial infections and contains a lot of faecal fluid, the procedure was carried out securely, so there were no issues.

It is not unusual to find foreign items in the stomach; this generally occurs when someone swallows something they shouldn’t have, such fish bones.

A man’s abdomen was discovered to contain the remnants of two parasitic worms in 2020 in China, in a similar incidence.

The guy came with terrible stomach discomfort and was in risk of falling into shock owing to a deadly bacterial infection, according to the Jiangsu Provincial Hospital, which provided details about the case. The skeletal remnants of the parasites in his internal organs were discovered via a CT scan. These animals had seriously damaged his digestive system by gnawing their way through his intestines and out.

The patient’s use of two live swamp eels as a folk treatment for his severe constipation and prostatitis was disclosed by the physicians. But not long after he ate the eels, he began to feel excruciating stomach agony.

He neglected to seek medical attention until the next day, which probably exacerbated his condition and contributed to the potentially fatal bacterial infection and its consequences.
