Overnight, a London couple becomes millionaires, and this is what happened next

We often fantasize about things like suddenly becoming overnight millionaires or billionaires, quitting our jobs, and going on a global tour. A London couple experienced something quite similar when they awoke in the morning to discover millions of rupees in both the wife’s and husband’s accounts. After “hitting the jackpot,” their pleasure had no boundaries, and they immediately started making plans for how they would use the money. Regretfully, their euphoria was short-lived, as they became millionaires in a matter of hours.

Self-employed builder Richard Warnock was taken aback when, upon opening his account in the morning, he saw £8.3 million (about Rs 87.41 crore) and £2.5 million (roughly Rs 26.32 crore) in his wife Jaqueline’s account. The pair invested in stocks, shares, and pensions using their accounts with the international investing firm ABNDN.

According to Mirror sources, Richard Warnock, 56, expressed his satisfaction. “I believed for a few hours that this may be true and that we had struck gold! It felt like a EuroMillions victory! When I saw the money, my heart began to race. We were already planning how we were going to spend it. He said that at first he assumed it had to be an error since his wife’s portfolio was also rather large. The pair believed that their investment may have performed very well last night, and they might have really gotten the money.

Richard was skeptical about the money, but after a few hours, when he saw the bank balance stay the same, he became confident that they may have indeed struck the jackpot. He called Acova Wealth Management, his financial advisor, after deciding to cash in on the windfall. When the couple realized what had really transpired, their hopes were dashed.

They were allegedly only wealthy for a few hours. It was discovered that the IT had misplaced the decimal points on the stock, causing their money to surge. The couple was devastated since, in high-risk ventures, individuals tend to take bold risks and it seemed feasible to get a sizable return on their capital.

The value returned to £500,000 (about Rs. 5 crore) upon the issuance of the modification. Other customers were also impacted by the price issue. According to an Abrdn representative, on Wednesday, March 20, they got an intra-day fund data feed from a source that had a temporary mistake.
