The Official IPL 2024 Kit for Kolkata Knight Riders Doesn’t Impress Fans

The Indian cricket community is ecstatic about the impending start of the new Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Starting on Friday, March 22, ten franchise teams from different cities will fight for the lucrative championship. During this season, neighbors may engage in heated arguments and their closest friends may turn into enemies as everyone vies to have their favorite teams’ trophies displayed in their cabinets.

Fans follow off-field happenings in addition to performances and want to outperform rival teams in every way. When this ardent Kolkata Knight Riders supporter saw the team’s new 2024 IPL uniform, he became disillusioned. He has posted on X (previously Twitter) to criticize the series, using the kit’s design as an example.

The individual uploaded an image of Brendon McCullum, who played for KKR in the first T20 tournament. The Kolkata-based team participated in the 2008 Indian Premier League wearing a shirt resembling armor and colored in royal, black, and gold. The team’s colors have evolved throughout time, much as the logo has altered.

The first logo of the Kolkata Knight Riders included a flaming Viking helmet set against a black backdrop, with the word “Kolkata Knight Riders” printed in gold. The team, owned by Shah Rukh Khan, used the previous logo for four seasons before switching to the present one. But KKR made the decision to update their official uniform before the 2012 Indian Premier League, swapping out the black color with the now-iconic purple.

The newest jersey from KKR has the same purple and gold color scheme, but this time it has a pattern. The purple hue has lightened, and the sleeves’ intricate golden textures are visible. “This is the biggest downgrade in the history of sports,” the fan said on X, comparing the new KKR shirt to the team’s original one.

One reader commented on the photo, saying, “I feel like most of the jerseys have been downgraded now.” However, this is by far the worst one. “Damn, that old jersey was so cool,” said someone else.

With former captain Gautam Gambhir rejoining the team as a consultant, KKR will aim to win the IPL with a big win. Under Gambhir’s direction, they won their most recent championship in 2014. KKR managed only six league wins in the previous season, and they ended up eighth in the rankings.
