Bihar train accident: Northeast Express derails at Buxar, leaving 4 people dead and more than 50 wounded

Four passengers lost their lives and over 50 others were injured when 21 carriages of the North East Express train derailed close to Raghunathpur station in the Buxar district.

The 21 carriages of the North East Express train derailed at 21.35 on Wednesday at Raghunathpur station of the Danapur division of the East Central Railway as it traveled from Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi, to Kamakhya in Assam.

Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of East Central Railway zone Birendra Kumar said, “Information has been received from the local district administration that approximately 50 people got injured.”

The passengers were saved by neighborhood residents and district authorities, and those who were badly wounded were sent to AIIMS Patna. He noted that there are railway personnel on the scene.

Rescue efforts are under progress, and 4 fatalities have been reported. According to Tarun Prakash, general manager of East Central Railways (ECR), 21 carriages have derailed.

He said that an investigation into the incident’s cause will take place when the rescue effort was completed.

Himanta Biswas Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, promised support with resources in handling the crisis and safeguarding the safety of people on board in reaction to the news of the North East Express disaster.

At least three coaches of the train traveling from Delhi’s Anand Vihar to Assam’s Guwahati’s Kamakhya Junction derailed in the disaster, which happened at Raghunathpur railway station.

Himanta Biswas Sarma issued a statement that said, “We are working hard to ensure that the necessary assistance and resources are provided to manage the situation and promptly restore normal railway operations.”

The chief minister said, “We are actively collaborating with local authorities and appropriate agencies to resolve the issue involving the North East Superfast train (12506) and are constantly monitoring the situation. Our first priority is making sure that everyone on board is safe. I kindly request that members of the public follow official channels for updates on this matter.

Two to three AC bogies have flipped and jammed the tracks, according to the information given.
