Election to the Bihar Lok Sabha in 2024: Rampreet Mandal Sees Keeping JDU Fortress Jhanjharpur

Jhanjharpur is one of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, and it will be represented in the 2024 Bihar Lok Sabha election. Since the constituency was drawn up ahead of the 1977 general elections, the Jhanjharpur Lok Sabha seat has historically served as a stronghold for the Janata Dal (United) and its former precursor, the Janata Dal.

With the exception of a loss to the BJP in the 2014 elections, regional heavyweights like the JD (U) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), particularly the latter, which has won the seat three times in the last four elections, maintain a tight grip on the Jhanjharpur seat.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Nitish Kumar’s JD (U) sided with the BJP-led NDA, and its candidate, Rampreet Mandal, successfully beat his closest opponent, RJD candidate Gulab Yadav, by a substantial margin of 3,22,951 votes, securing the seat for the governing coalition.

Mandal received 6,02,391 votes in a 57.24 percent voter turnout, while Yadav only managed 2,79,440.

Phase 3 of the Lok Sabha polls will see elections for the Jhanjharpur seat on May 7, 2024. Results will be announced on June 4 after the counting of ballots.

About the Lok Sabha Constituency of Jhanjharpur
Reminiscent of the 2019 elections, the JD (U) has rejoined the incumbent BJP-led NDA after the most recent about-face of party chief and chief minister Nitish Kumar. In the 2024 Bihar Lok Sabha Election, the regional heavyweight will be vying to hold onto the Jhanjharpur seat.

Lalu Prasad’s RJD, a former partner of JDU in the Mahagathbandhan, would be attempting to reclaim the Jhanjharpur seat for the opposition INDIA bloc.

From April 19 to June 1, 2024, there will be seven phases of the Lok Sabha Elections, including elections for the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. The Election Commission has indicated that results will be released and votes tallied on June 4.
