Scam of Land-For-Job: Lalu and Wife Rabri Devi Receive Bail; CBI Filed Case in October of Last Year

In connection with the suspected land-for-job scandal inside the railways, a Delhi court on Wednesday granted bail to RJD leader Lalu Prasad, his wife Rabri Devi, and their son, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav.

When the accused showed up in answer to the summons, Special Judge Geetanjali Goel granted them this relief.

On September 22, the court issued a summons to the defendants after reviewing the charge sheet that had been brought against them and others, saying that the evidence “prima facie” suggested that a number of crimes, including forgery, criminal conspiracy, fraud, and corruption, had been committed.

On July 3, the agency submitted a charge sheet about the suspected fraud.

In both these and other instances involving the fodder fraud, Prasad is free on bond.

The CBI had submitted two charge sheets in the case, but this was the first one in which Tejashwi Yadav was included as a defendant.

Lalu Prasad served as the railway minister from 2004 to 2009, and the case relates to Group-D appointments made in the Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh-based West Central Zone of the railways in exchange for land parcels gifted or transferred by the recruits in the name of the RJD leader’s family or associates, according to officials.

On May 18, 2022, the agency filed a complaint against Prasad and 15 other people, including his wife, two children, and unnamed governmental employees and private citizens.

Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, and others were named in the CBI’s first charge sheet, which was submitted in October of last year. It had to do with appointments made in the Central Zone of the Railways, which has its headquarters in Mumbai.
