Neelkanth Mishra Will Act As UIDAI’s Temporary Chairman

Neelkanth Mishra, the chief economist of Axis Bank, has been chosen to serve as the nodal organization in charge of providing Aadhaar numbers, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), on a part-time basis.

Prior to joining Axis Bank, Mishra spent over 20 years at Credit Suisse, where he held the positions of co-head of the APAC strategy, head of the India equity strategy, and head of research in India. He has knowledge in Taiwan IC design, semiconductor foundries, Indian pharmaceuticals, metals and mining, and Asian tech strategy research.

 

The CEO, who also serves as the member secretary, two part-time members, and the chairman make up the UIDAI board.

 

Mishra, who is renowned for his unique viewpoints on economic strategy and market tactics, has advised several government committees and served as a member of the 15th finance commission’s economic advisory council.

 

Mishra, an IIT-Kanpur graduate with a gold medal in computer science, thinks India’s digital development would be crucial in sustaining its growth at a period of slowing global growth. Mishra has often discussed both the benefits and drawbacks of the technical advancements that increased company efficiency.

 

Mishra has been an outspoken advocate for the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) programs and thinks they would assist increase manufacturing. He also favors a clear tax code and targeted government aid.

 

Moneycontrol claims that Mishra revealed his observations at the Semicon India, 2023 conference in Gandhinagar last month as he evaluated ideas for the India Semiconductor Mission. He underlined the need of having a clear vision and business strategy, especially for startups without previous semiconductor manufacturing expertise.

 

Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys, had the idea for Aadhar, which revolutionized the process of giving out unique identity to Indian residents. Aadhar quickly became the foundation for several government and commercial sector initiatives, including special programs for underprivileged individuals.
