Nita Ambani said that women should be treated equally everywhere, from boardrooms to playgrounds

Nita Ambani is an advocate for women’s rights in India and the creator of the Reliance Foundation, one of the biggest philanthropic organizations in the nation. She is also very important to organizations that are in the sports and cultural sectors. The 59-year-old is also the wife of Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries.

“The Reliance Foundation has invested over the years in many causes — education, child welfare, women empowerment, and gender equality,” Nita Ambani said to CNBC’s Tanvir Gill on “The CNBC Conversation.”

She emphasized the reasons it’s critical that women have access to the same opportunities as men.

Nita Ambai told CNBC, “It’s time we treat our girls and boys equally, whether in boardrooms or on playgrounds,” and she said that she is “very, very dear to my heart” about empowering women.

The organization has aided 70 million individuals and focuses mostly on giving women access to improved healthcare, enhancing their digital literacy, and equipping them with skills that would increase their employment.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Reliance Foundation joined up in August to guarantee that women working in agricultural and non-farm occupations would be paid at least $1,200 per year for the next three years.

“I believe that a country’s progress is contingent upon the empowerment of women, the welfare of its youth, and the metamorphosis achieved by athletics. A developed country needs these three, the speaker said.

“A theme that runs through my life is women’s empowerment,” Ambani said. “India needs these platforms and apps so women know they have equal playing fields because it will have the largest percentage of women in the world in the next ten years.”

In 2021, Nita Ambai also started Her Circle, a social media platform and digital app that talks about women’s health and a variety of themes including lifestyle trends and body diversity.

In addition, Nita Ambani is the creator of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center and a co-owner of the Mumbai Indians, five-time winners of the Indian Premier League.

“I think playgrounds are just as important for learning as classrooms, and I think sports are a great way for both boys and girls to get exercise,” she said.

“Sports are universal,” Ambani said to CNBC. As the first elected Indian woman, she serves on the International Olympics Committee.

India said early in October that it will submit a bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036.

“India will spare no effort to ensure the successful staging of the Olympics in 2036—this is the aspiration of the 140 crore (1.4 billion) Indians,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the International Olympic Committee session’s opening ceremony in Mumbai.

When questioned about whether the nation is prepared to host the biggest athletic event in the world, Ambani said, “We are absolutely ready.” I really hope that happens.

Both parties benefit from it. I hope that soon our nation’s young will be able to declare with pride that India is hosting the Olympics,” she said.
