Stock Market Holiday: Due to Good Friday, BSE, NSE, and MCX will be closed

Good Friday is upon us and will be celebrated in advance of Easter in 2024. Good Friday falls on March 29, which is today, this year. The commodities, stock, and bond markets in India won’t be open for business today.

There were just three trade sessions in the shortened week. Due to Holi, the equities markets were closed on Monday, March 25.

The benchmark 30-share BSE Sensex increased by 655 points, or 0.9%, to end at 73,651. The whole NSE Nifty closed at 22,327, up 203 points or 0.92%. In the meanwhile, FY24 saw gains of almost 29% and 25% for the Nifty and BSE Sensex, respectively.

The rupee fell 6 paise to end the day at 83.39 versus the US dollar on Thursday as a result of the US dollar’s strengthening relative to its main international competitors and the rise in crude oil prices on global markets.

On Monday, April 1, trading will restart on the bond markets, the commodities exchanges MCX and NCDEX, the stock exchanges BSE and National Stock Exchange (NSE), and the stock exchanges. The day will begin at 9:00 am with a 15-minute pre-opening session on the BSE and NSE. Regular trading will begin at 9:15 am. The usual trading hours of MCX will also be resumed. The morning session will operate from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and the evening session will run from 5:00 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm.

In India, it is customary to commemorate significant religious and national holidays with the periodic closing of marketplaces. The approaching Good Friday holiday is a significant event for the Christian community and gives market participants an opportunity to take a well-earned vacation from trading.

It is recommended that traders and investors consider the influence of the holiday schedule on market liquidity and price fluctuations while planning their strategy. As usual, to guarantee smooth trading operations and efficient risk management, it is important to be informed about such market vacations.
