At the Super Bowl, Wicked’s first look stunned Michelle Yeoh, Ariana Grande, and Cynthia Erivo

The Super Bowl has developed into a spectacle of entertainment as opposed to just a football match. This pattern was carried over to the 2024 edition of the competition, which included not only exciting sports but also first looks at major blockbuster films and television series from many studios. One of the highlights was a behind-the-scenes look at the magical world of Wicked, which stars Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, the headmistress of Shiz University, and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp and Ariana Grande, respectively. In addition to introducing the ensemble of celebrities, the clip gave fans an exciting preview of Erivo’s performance of the well-known Defying Gravity song. Fans were left wanting more after seeing the teaser, which acted as the first installment of a two-part series and offered an intriguing sneak peek at the impending musical.

The next film, which is helmed by Jon M. Chu, is an adaptation of the 2003 Broadway musical based on Gregory Maguire’s book and delves into the little-known past of Oz’s witches. The narrative follows the travels of Glinda, the future Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West with green skin. Beginning with their unplanned relationship in school, it continues into their complicated adulthood, during which they experience a love triangle with school hottie Fiyero and political unrest. The much-loved characters will be brought to life on a large screen in the next movie.

Wicked stars Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Erivo, and Ariana Grande in addition to Jonathan Bailey as the charming and carefree prince Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode in her feature debut as Nessarose, and pop culture giant Jeff Goldblum as the renowned Wizard of Oz. In addition, Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James are in the cast. Miss Coddle, played by Keala Settle, is a brand-new character that was created just for the movie.

The production company gave attendees at CinemaCon last year a sneak peek at the forthcoming film. After two strikes in Hollywood in 2023 caused many delays, the film’s production wrapped up in January of that year. Notwithstanding the difficulties, the much awaited big-screen version of the Broadway smash is poised to transport audiences to the fantastical realm of Oz, offering them a cinematic spectacle.

In addition to Wicked, the Super Bowl 2024 trailers include Twisters, Deadpool 3, and a new IF trailer.
