Director’s cut: Anurag Kashyap said he would rather direct movies than act in them

Anurag Kashyap is a multi-talented individual who works as a filmmaker, producer, presenter, and actor. Recently, he and Nagraj Popatrao Manjule collaborated to present Kastoori: The Musk, a Vinod Kamle film. The narrative centers on two kids whose parents work as manual scavengers.

Anurag is eagerly awaiting the debut of his next Kennedy neo-noir thriller in theaters. The movie was exhibited at the Kolkatta International Film Festival and received positive reviews from other international film festivals. In an interview with The Free Press Journal, he says, “Kastoori approached me once it was finished and manufactured. I just learned that, despite having already won the prestigious national prize, the movie has not yet had a chance to be released. Small films had no opportunity to be released because of the lockdown, which prevented large films from being released. We thought, “This is such a great movie, why isn’t it out yet.”

“We assumed responsibility for it.” After my film Kennedy’s producer, Ranjan Singh, saw it, we presented it to Nagraj, who subsequently brought it to a multiplex. It’s about to be released because we all got together. The town where this movie is located is made up of people who manually clean our gutters. Therefore, many feel as if the foul sewer stench is emanating from their body as their kids go to school. They get untouchable treatment. These folks are searching for Kastoori because of its amazing scent, which helps to protect them from being mistreated by others. He goes on to say that he presents.

Anurag concurs that independent filmmakers need considerable force to get their films into theaters. “That fight is already there and shall always continue to exist,” large producers say, taking away theaters with ease. There are only 12,000 movie theaters and 1000 films produced annually in the nation we live in. There’s nothing we can do about it,” he says.

“I think there is only one solution if we start making many more cinema halls in comparison to the films that are set to release in one-year terms,” says the person searching for a way to ensure that modest films also receive adequate theaters for their releases. There are more than ten lakh theaters in China. We need room. Getting space is crucial for our films since they mostly rely on word-of-mouth promotion,” he continues.

Few are aware that Anurag would be seen negatively in the south. Yes, I have a villainous role in the Maharaja movie from South Africa. Nithilan Swaminathan is the director, and Vijay Sethupathi and I have acted together. Creating my own films is my top focus. As an actor, I visit there. He ends, by saying, “I like to follow the ship’s captain, so I behave like an obedient student.”
