INDIA VOTES 2024: The report card of former MP Vinod Khanna surpasses that of Sunny Deol

Actor Sunny Deol’s time as a BJP MP has prompted comparisons to the late BJP MP and another celebrity, Vinod Khanna, in terms of launching development projects for the Gurdaspur seat.

Because he oversaw the construction of strategically significant bridges, Khanna gained the nickname “Pullan Da Sardar” (King of Bridges).

Two of Khanna’s projects were the Kathlour bridge, which connects 27 villages in Bhoa, and the Mukerian bridge across the Beas, which connects the Gurdaspur district to Hoshiarpur. After that, the actor completed the task via the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), whose head he knew, after Center had claimed a “paucity of funds” as justification for not issuing funding.

On the other hand, Deol’s assistants assert that the Makkoran Pattan bridge’s foundation was laid. The bridge does not really exist; it only exists on paper.

While his successor was not as often present in Parliament, Khanna seldom missed any of the sessions. According to Dr Samrendra Sharma, Khanna’s longtime political advisor, “Khanna was always keen to learn how the forum worked and also how things worked out in Delhi’s corridors of power.”

Furthermore, he never participated in any debates, in contrast to his predecessor. While his predecessor often visited the constituency, Deol’s trips were few. Although Khanna was the regular chair of the Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meetings where the use of central money was examined, his replacement was seldom present.

While Khanna was known to often ring up both DCs and all three SSPs in his area, the MP seldom interacted with administration personnel.

It is a known truth that Khanna knew most senior officials by name, but Deol did not even know their names. He would often meet Pathankot and Gurdaspur DCs in their camp offices, disregarding decorum. Deol never played with such nuance.

Pathankot now has a civil airport, thanks to Khanna’s persistence. at response, Deol’s aides claim that it was his efforts that caused Vande Bharat to stop at Pathankot.
