Oppenheimer receives seven awards, while Poor Things receives five

epic of the atomic bomb At the 77th British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, Oppenheimer took up seven honors, including best picture, director, and actor, solidifying its position as the front-runner for the Oscars the following month. The Holocaust drama The Zone of Interest took home three awards, while Poor Things took home five.

For his role as scientist J Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, Cillian Murphy won the Best Actor Oscar, while Christopher Nolan won his first Best Director BAFTA for the film Oppenheimer.

Murphy expressed his gratitude for getting to portray a character that was so intricate and nuanced. Playing the wild and vivacious Bella Baxter in the steampunk-style visual spectacular Poor Things, which took home awards for production design, makeup and hair, visual effects, and costume design, earned Emma Stone the title of Best Actress.

In addition, Oppenheimer received awards for editing, cinematography, and musical score. Robert Downey Jr. received the Best Supporting Actor trophy.

Da’Vine For her role as a chef at a boarding school in The Holdovers, Joy Randolph won best supporting actress.

The Zone of Interest, a British-produced movie with a mostly German cast that was filmed in Poland, won the prizes for best British film and best picture not in English, which is a first, as well as best sound design, which has been called the movie’s true highlight.

The Associated Press and PBS Frontline documentary 20 Days in Mariupol on the fighting in Ukraine took home the best documentary award.

A glamorous, British-inspired prelude to Hollywood’s Oscar Awards, the gala was hosted by Doctor Who actor David Tennant, who made his entrance wearing a kilt and a sequined top while toting a dog called Bark Ruffalo. Many waited for clues about who would win at the Oscars on March 10.

The French courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall took home the Oscar for best original script. The award for Best Adapted Screenplay went to Cord Jefferson for his satirical American fiction. Killers of the Flower Moon, a historical epic, was nominated nine times for the EE BAFTA Film Awards, however, it was not successful.

The biopic Maestro about Leonard Bernstein, which received seven nominations but no prizes, was also a letdown. Neither did the bittersweet class-war dramedy Saltburn, with five nominations, nor the grief-tinged love narrative All of Us Strangers, with six.

Barbie, who starred in half of the very successful 2023 movie “Barbenheimer,” which also happened to be the most earning movie of the year, lost out on five nominations. Many people felt that Greta Gerwig, the director of Barbie, was seriously overlooked when she was not nominated for a directing honor at the BAFTAs or the Oscars.

The winner of the sole category selected by the general public, the Rising Actor Award, went to How to Have Sex actor Mia McKenna-Bruce.

Oh my god

“Oh boy!” was how Cillian Murphy began his acceptance speech. Oh my god. He said, “Thanks for seeing something in me that I didn’t see in myself,” as he praised producer Emma Thomas and director Christopher Nolan. They were his “Oppen-homies,” as he put it.

Nolan ends his “curse” of the BAFTA

Director Christopher Nolan of Oppenheimer finally broke what some fans had affectionately referred to as a “curse” on Sunday by winning a BAFTA trophy—two, in fact. After the BAFTA event, Nolan informed the media, “They are very heavy.” He was clutching the two trophies. “It feels like I’m working out.”

Sizzling in a Sabyasachi sari, Deepika

At the BAFTA Awards, Jonathan Glazer was given the Best Film, not in English, for Deepika Padukone’s The Zone of Interest. The actress stole the show at the occasion, looking stunning in a silver shimmering sequined saree and matching top by master designer Sabyasachi.

They killed it on the red carpet.

Among many others, Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, Cillian Murphy, and Emily Blunt were among the celebrities who walked the red carpet at the BAFTA 2024 Awards. Robbie opted for a strapless outfit in pink and white, Stone donned an orange dress reminiscent of the Poor Things, and Blunt wore a transparent dress. Ryan Gosling, as “Ken,” opted for an all-white outfit with red accents. Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan were seen matching in black as they posed for pictures. Robert Downey Jr. was seen showing off his sense of style while dressing in a gray outfit with a black T-shirt. Emily Blunt looked stunning in a beautiful nude outfit. One of the greatest red carpet outfits was provided by singer Dua Lipa. The Levitating hitmaker chose a crimson gown that reached the floor and a scarlet cloak.

The honor will go to Mathew Perry.

After receiving criticism over his exclusion from the In Memoriam portion of the film awards night, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced that Matthew Perry will receive an honor at the television awards later this year. In addition, Tina Turner, who was honored as an actress and singer, was honored in this session.

You say “wart-ter,” and I say “wahter.”

Emma’s acceptance speech Emma Stone praised Tony McNamara, the screenwriter of Poor Things, for writing the phrase “I must go punch that baby,” as well as her mother for giving her life. “Even though I say ‘water’ as an American, Stone did not laugh at me when he taught me how to say ‘wart-ter,’ even though I was playing a British character in this movie,” Stone joked.

“Let’s continue battling,”

The maker of the finest documentary, 20 Days in Mariupol, journalist Mstyslav Chernov, said, “This is not about us.” This is about the people of Ukraine; the Mariupol narrative serves as a metaphor of everything that has transpired, including hardship and faith. In closing his award speech, the filmmaker said, “Let’s keep fighting.”

“That dude,” Robert Downey Jr., is grateful.
In honor of “that dude,” Christopher Nolan, Robert Downey Jr., winner of the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor, acknowledged Christopher Nolan. “That dude Chris Nolan suggested I try an understated approach as a last-ditch effort to maybe salvage my fading credibility,” he remarked. I thus distribute this to the other candidates.

Prince William is not present, nor is Kate Middleton.

Prince William showed up at London’s Royal Festival Hall for the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards presentation. Since 2010, Prince William has served as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ president. Nevertheless, his spouse Kate Middleton was not present at the event since she had just returned home after abdominal surgery.
