Pervien Dastur, a co-star in Salman Khan’s movie Maine Pyar Kiya, discusses being replaced in films by Amrita Singh

Maine Pyar Kiya was a huge success in the 1980s, topping the box office in 1989 and breaking multiple records. Salman Khan, Bhagyashree, Monish Behl, Alok Nath, Reema Lagoo, and Dilip Joshi among others were able to jumpstart their acting careers because to Sooraj Barjatya’s first film. However, following the movie’s popularity, Pervien Dastur, who played the vampire Seema, disappeared from the big screen.

Pervien’s family has no ties to the film business despite being from Mumbai. She dabbled in modeling throughout her undergraduate years, and it was at this time that a director saw her and urged her to audition for a play, beginning her acting career. Pervien performed in several English plays before breaking into the film industry, sharing the stage with celebrities like Naseeruddin Shah and Pearl Padamsee. As luck would have it, Pervien was performing in a comedy play when Sooraj Barjatya was looking for new talent for his movie. Sooraj met Tarachand Barjatiya after seeing her performance and the two of them offered her a part in the movie, which she accepted with enthusiasm. Pervien earned Rs 25,000 for the undertaking, whereas Bhagyashree received Rs 1.5 lakhs for her contribution.

The actress said during a conversation that she was dissatisfied with the film offers she had gotten. She changed her job as a consequence, working for Air India as an air hostess.

She was scheduled to reprise their collaboration with Salman Khan in Suryavanshi (1992) after their triumph in Maine Pyar Kiya. She signed the contract and expected a call, but she was shocked to learn via Screen Magazine that Amrita Singh had taken her position. She was also supposed to appear in Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke starring Aamir Khan, but she got a call from the airline she worked for as an air hostess instead. Navneet Nishan chose to play her in the film instead of applying for the airline position. She was also given a role in the television show Zabaan Sambhaal Ke, but Tanaaz Currim Irani ultimately got it.

The OTT series Margao File, which stars Zeenat Aman, Shahrukh Irani, Pallavi Joshi, and Kitu Gidwani among its ensemble cast, will include Pervien’s return to the big screen. Release of the program is planned for August of this year.
